Orchids at the Biltmore Estate

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)

We saw these beautiful blossoms while touring the Conservatory on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, last month. We could have spent hours just enjoying the hundreds of blossoms in the Orchid Room alone.

This is the kind that has fringe on the edges. It's very pretty and not as weird as some of the others varieties. A whole orchid room??? Must have been like a greenhouse? Surely not a regular room in the house?

They are so lovely, George! I'm trying my hand at orchids. I have 5 and although the plants are healthy, I have no new blooms -- yet. But, I'm optimistic!

GORGEOUS! Did you need a separate admission for the conservatory? I would have loved to have done that, too.
