Rakes Mill Dam

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I found this dam at the site of Rakes Mill while driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. The miller, Jarman Rakes, allowed customers, and only customers, fish for brook trout in the mill pond while their grain was being ground.

I've never seen a dam quite like that one. Is it still a working mill?

Beautiful shot and great information. I just love your photos. I also love the Clarence Iris. The raindrops on these look like beautiful little pearls. Iris' are my mother's favorite flower.
I just love to check out your's and Betsy's adventures!
Have a great day,
Brenda

I would enjoy fishing there as I am sure you would catch something.

The water looks so clean and refreshing in the falls, but the ponds above and below let you know that it's not so much. Cool shot though.

Interesting that the miller limited the fishing to customers. Looks like an interesting, pretty site.

They're very specific about their fishing clientele.

Such a cool place to fish. We passed a small bridge and kids were swimming underneath and I thought kids always find good places to swim.
